14 Amazing Herbs for Liver Cleansing
The liver is the largest single organ in the body and is one of the most important too. Its main job is to filter blood from the digestive system and metabolize vitamins and minerals before sending the blood back to the body. It also metabolizes toxins and drugs and is where all the red blood cells go to die. As the liver “digests” all of these particles it produces bile, a green liquid crucial in the metabolism of fat in your diet.
This organ plays such a crucial role in our systems that without it we would only last a few days before our own metabolic system poisons us. It is important to keep the liver healthy as long as you can, especially since it is one of the first organs to suffer from wear and tear.
Here are 14 amazing herbs to naturally cleanse your liver:
Turmeric is a plant from the ginger family that serves as the main ingredient of most common curries. This plant gives curry its signature bright yellow color. It is also widely used as an herbal cure. Turmeric is most known for being an effective anti-inflammatory. It helps ease heart burn, intestinal gas, arthritis, headaches, lung infections and even some skin problems.
The medicinal root is better known for its anti-inflammatory properties but what most people don’t know is that turmeric can help heal a diseased liver.
Researchers at the Clinical Trial Center for Functional Foods, Chonbuk National Hospital in South Korea have evidence that turmeric may help moderate alanine aminotransferase levels. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is a marker for liver damage.
Sixty subjects, ages 20 and above, with elevated ALT were randomized to receive either the fermented turmeric powder (FTP) or a placebo. The results of the experiment were surprising, in that not only did the turmeric powder moderate ALT levels it also reduced AST (aspartate transaminase) and GGT (gamma-glutamyl transferase) which are also markers for liver damage.
The South Korean study is just one of the many pre-clinical studies that show evidence that turmeric has a huge potential for liver repair.
