5 Foods That Will Clear Your Skin Right Up
According to Dr. Jessica Wu, a dermatologist, what you eat is as equally important as what you apply to your skin. This is because food breaks down into vitamins, minerals and amino acids during the process of digestion, and then those nutrients are used to build healthy skin. If your nutrition is unhealthy, your skin may be too. For example, if you don’t’ eat enough protein, as Dr. Wu explains, your skin doesn’t get the amino acids it needs to make collagen and elastic tissue so it is hard for it to stay strong and elastic.
A registered dietitian Alex Caspero suggests that low-glycemic diets have been shown to reduce the appearance and development of acne, while sugar loading usually leads to breakouts.
Hydration is also very important to keep your skin beautiful and healthy, so drinking lots of water and a glass or two of freshly squeezed orange juice per day may be your skin’s savior. Orange juice is packed with vitamin C and antioxidants that protect your skin from cell damage and help it create collagen.
Here are 5 foods that will clear your skin very quickly after you start eating them on a regular basis:
1. Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are healthy for your body in general, and not only for your skin, due to their high content of omega-3s. They are particularly beneficial for your skin because they help repair and maintain skin cell membranes and help it stay moist. They are also packed with vitamin E which is an antioxidant that fights skin inflammation and the appearance and development of wrinkles. Chia seeds also contain zinc and magnesium, which also aid in the fight against acne by keeping your skin fresh and clean.
Introduce chia seeds into your diet and you will see your skin improve in no time!
Like chia seeds, almonds are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamin E, and besides those beneficial nutrients they also contain calcium which helps your cells absorb the mentioned almond ingredients and help them achieve a better effect. Almonds also contain antioxidants such as phenols that protect your body from disease and keep your skin healthy and looking great. The proteins contained in almonds are great for maintaining your skin moist, elastic and firm, and they also fight inflammation that causes blemishes.
3. Oily Fish
Oily fish, such as salmon, sardines, tuna, herring, mackerel and many other, contain healthy fat that help moisturize your skin and keep it looking fresh. These fish are packed with omega-3 fatty acids which are among the best nutrients for the health of your skin. Two portions of fish each week will make your skin glow and help you get rid of acne and other impurities.
Besides being delicious, these fruits have amazing benefits for your skin. They contain antioxidants (anthocyanosides and polyphenols) which fight free radicals that can damage your skin. Vitamins C and A help your skin produce collagen and stay firm. Since blackberries are so delicious, it would be a shame to use them for something else but eating, especially when they can be so beneficial that way. However, you can also use them to cleanse oily skin from the outside.
The recipe: Mix half a tablespoon of blackberry juice with 2 tablespoons of fullers’ earth and make a paste. If you have acne, add a couple of drops of tea tree oil into the mixture. Put the mixture evenly onto your (wet) skin and leave it for two minutes.
5. Kiwi Fruit
Kiwi contains high levels of vitamin C, which helps your skin produce collagen and make the capillaries that feed the skin stronger, and the skin itself firmer. Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant that fights the damage caused by free radicals and reduces its visibility.
