Around a third of all Americans are dealing with high blood pressure and another third is almost there as their blood pressure is higher than it should normally be, but not high enough to be called hypertension (or high blood pressure). Some foods are contributing to these problems, while others can help alleviate the condition.

While a diet rich in lean proteins, fruits, vegetables and non-fat dairy can make you feel much better and help you gain control over your blood pressure, there are a lot of foods that make you feel worse and cause your blood pressure to rise uncontrollably.

1. Red Meat

If you’re at risk of high blood pressure, or you’re already dealing with it, you should limit your consumption of red meat, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition whose researchers found that people who EAT RED MEAT regularly are more likely to have HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.

Why is red meat dangerous?

The reason why red meat is potentially very dangerous is the fact that it contains high levels of saturated fat which can lead to an increase in your bad cholesterol levels and cause artery clogging. The threat to your health becomes even worse if you don’t roast or cook these meats, but fry them in oil, as it increases the fat content.

Eating red meat in moderation and not more than once a week shouldn’t be a problem, but you should really try not to eat it more often than that. Some people are more likely to react unfavorably than others, but even if you think you aren’t at a high risk – it’s better to be safe than sorry.
