10 Ways to Increase the Dopamine in Your Brain

1. Consume less sugar

Eating sugary snacks can make you feel good for a short while, but it generally affects your brain chemistry and makes the dopamine levels drop after reaching great heights, often called ‘sugar highs’.  Sugar actually has a similar effect on the dopamine levels as drugs do.

By eating sugar, dopamine is raised in the same ways it is raised by drugs and alcohol, and then when it decreases, you end up wanting more sugar, which leads you into this pattern and eventually-sugar addiction. Limiting your sugar intake will be difficult at the beginning, but it will help you get rid of the addiction and the cravings. When you start eating less sugar, the levels of the dopamine in your brain will become more stabile and you won’t have mood swings and the concentration and motivation problems you may be dealing with now.
